Fuji x100 why so expensive

One of our least-favored controls on the XS was the easily-bumped dial which encircled the four-way controller, and that's thankfully gone. Taking over from it in the Fuji XT is a true, rolling rear dial that replaces the dial-like interface element which fell under your thumb on the XS. The new, true dial should be more intuitive. And since replacing that control would've removed a button, another has been added -- a dedicated Delete button.

Otherwise, the controls are similar, although the locations have been reshuffled somewhat. Note, though, that the four-way controller buttons are no longer screen-printed with their Record mode function. These are among a total of seven buttons which can be customized to your own personal tastes.

You can also now customize the Q menu, surfacing more options that you want quick access to. Although there's been a fair bit of change to the body, the Fuji XT accepts the same optional leather case as did its predecessor. There's also a new accessory grip, though, which we're presuming will be specific to this camera. It attaches to the base, and should make for a more comfortable, secure handhold. It also adds a tripod mount directly beneath the optical center of the lens, and allows battery and flash-card changes without removing the grip itself.

And yes, we did mention Wi-Fi above. That's another brand-new feature for the Fuji XT, and one which makes it more relevant in the smartphone age. Now, without extra accessories -- other than your Android or iOS phone itself, of course -- you can both share images almost instantly with friends and family on social networks, and control the camera remotely, complete with a live view feed to make sure everything's just as you want it when you trip the shutter.

Video quality wasn't the XS' strong suit, though, and the same can be said for the XT. Autofocus also remains largely unchanged, with a similar hybrid AF system comprised of both contrast-detection and on-sensor phase-detect pixels -- though the XT does gain face detection and multi-area AF, which the XS lacked.

For the most part, the AF system is quick and snappy as long as you're in good to fair lighting, but in low-light situations, just as we found with the XS, focus performance struggles. In other performance measures, the XT gets mostly high marks, with decent shot-to-shot speeds and a burst rate of just over 6fps a bit faster than the 5. Note, though, that our lab target was designed to be difficult to compress, so you should get deeper JPEG buffers with more typical subjects.

No, it's not overpriced. Indeed, I think Fuji has room to increase prices over time. We're starting to see that already with less discounting X-Deals and the incremental bumps in pricing for the X-T2. Fuji lenses IMO are way underpriced for their quality and build. The 16F1. But at the end of the day, they're just "tools" that are priced differently with unique range of features aimed to attract consumers. Whether they are called one thing or another or categorized in a certain way, both you and I will have different perceptions of "expensive" and what a camera can be called.

I simply don't care too much about what it is called nor would I get offended over a misused term. There is simply no need to overstretch what was already set into place by the people who sell the stuff. Unless you have any reports or articles about XF's manufacturing costs, I'd be happy to open up about that.

So people who are on a budget but still want to shoot Fuji would suddenly have to pay an enormous price tag for a lens that is catered to any Fuji shooter? The market isn't only made up of pros or those with enough cash to spend. Just the same, I do agree that all digital cameras are overpriced, especially when you think about how much value they lose when a new model is announced.

If you provide definitive calculations of what a fair price is then you question could be answered. There is only one known mechanism of price discovery -- an open competitive market. If Fuji fail to sell the camera in produced quantities at the set price then it's overpriced and it will eventually be discounted, everything that is produced is eventually sold at the price that both buyers and sellers find fair.

Fuji has to sell 10's of thousands of the Fuji xF to make a profit at its current selling price. It is not a high margin item. They probably make less than It is a prestige sell unit.

It tells the world Fuji matters and is a special kind of company. Seriously, it is a marvel of engineering. The camera stores have to take their cut and what is Fuji left with? Way too much. At times, user reviews, such as those published at amazon , address these issues in a useful manner, but such feedback is on many occasions incomplete, inconsistent, and unreliable.

This is why hands-on reviews by experts are important. As can be seen, the professional reviewers agree in many cases on the quality of different cameras, but sometimes their assessments diverge, reinforcing the earlier point that a camera decision is often a very personal choice.

The review scores listed above should be treated with care , though. The ratings are only valid when referring to cameras in the same category and of the same age. Thus, a score needs to be put into the context of the launch date and the launch price of the camera, and comparing ratings of very distinct cameras or ones that are far apart in terms of their release date have little meaning.
